Sad news regarding Desmond Dekker's death today. Saw him live last year - but he went through the motions a bit at the gig for me though - not like when I saw him a few years back and he really rocked the joint. Still - the guy was 65. He signed a poster for Ecka at the gig last year in Bilston (The Robin 2) - he was one of the Ska / Reggae greats the likes of whom we won't see again.
There's some pics from this gig on the Miscellaneous Section of the site (Ecka with his poster etc) - have a flick through - hit the link-

This is a bit self indulgent and nothing to do with music but fuck it I'm a bit pissed...
Tonight in the final of the Walsall Senior Cup played at Bescot Stadium, the lads from Tipton put on one of the best fighting performances of the season you'll see in any standard of football...but this game is all about sticking the ball in the net - we failed to do it, Boldmere made the most of their chances (all be it through a Tipton mistake) and claimed the only goal of the game in the first half.
Tipton came close very early in the game (within the opening couple of minutes in fact) - but Ash Langford couldn't beat the Boldmere keeper. We then got a penalty (Ash again) but he failed to score and missed the rebound as well. We then had skipper Lee Rollason sent off for an idiotic headbut that really let himself, his team and the Tipton fans (who numbered well over 500 in the crowd of over 600) down. Things then went from bad to worse, when probably one of our most consistent players of the season - keeper Danny Watson miss-kicked a ball only to see it land at the feet of a Boldmere striker who then placed it in the net. 1-0 to Boldmere.
The second half was like a scene from an old Western movie with the 10 men of Tipton putting on an absolutely fantastic performance - hitting the Boldmere bar twice and having one cleared off the line...you couldn't have asked for any more from the 10 lads - they gave it their all. Boldmere only got to Tiptons 18 yard box three times in the whole of the second half.
I'm biased I love the club - we really deserved to get some rewards from the game - but it wasn't to be. Well done Boldmere - you need a bit of luck to win a cup and you saved all of yours up for tonight - (ya' jammy bastards) - but this season has seen Tipton Town FC scale heights they've never reached before and they've done the town proud. There's a lot of disappointment because we really should have claimed a bit of silverware this season...but Johnny Bonk, Jenna, Bill and all the staff and players can hold their heads high. Keep up the excellent work lads and lasses - it's been a big step up and you've made your mark.
Tipun' for eva'
