Tipton Town Football Club...a bit of history.

Well some of you may have noticed that the footie season has started again - and you all know my passion for my home team Tipton Town FC "C'mon the Toon / Coolers" (call em' what you will).

Well they create a little bit of history for themselves on Saturday 2nd September by entering the FA Cup (preliminary round 2) for the first time in the clubs history. We play Rushall Olympic (who we beat in the Walsall Senior Cup competition last year and have beaten pre-season as well...hope I'm not tempting fate here) at Tipton's answer to the San Siro Stadium this Saturday. So for those of you able to get along - do so, and give the black n' white stripes a cheer!

We are also Top of The League at the moment (Midland Alliance) - unbeaten in the first 6 outings - well done Bonky's Boys. Visit the clubs web site for more info

CECIL PATTON TRIBUTE...Johnny Was A Soldier

I was shocked and saddened to hear last week about the death of my old friend Cecil Patton (aka- Johnny Was). Shocked at his death, saddened by it and also the fact that he had been buried back home in Belfast before news reached me.

I have written this little tribute to his memory in honour of someone I was really glad to have known. Hit the link to the GOJO' MUSIC web site http://www.gojo-music.co.uk/press/cecil.pdf

Would like to send belated condolences to all of Cecil's family - from myself, my own family, and from members of my old band The Gentlemen Bandits - whom Cecil was a member of for a while.

Rest in peace - at least for a while mate...then get that guitar out up there and give em' hell!

'Johnny Was a good man.'

Press Release
BARBARAVILLE RECORDS SPECIAL
Martin Stephenson, Scott MacDonald & GOJO' MUSIC
Live @ The Little Civic - Wolverhampton.
Fri 13th Oct
Tickets - £9:50
for info visit: http://www.wolvescivic.co.uk/

Martin Stephenson is an outstanding singer and songwriter, whose career in music now stretches back over twenty years of critical acclaim and self destruction. These days you're just as likely to see Martin singing in a tee-pee with the highland tree people or playing the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall with Janis Ian. Maybe even busking on the street corners of Inverness with his banjo and guitar or touring Spain with his swing band The Toe-Rags. One thing is for sure. You won't find him drinking with the fat cats. Life's to short and besides, there's too much Doc Watson to learn out there. Martin will continue to make music for many years to come, whether he gets recognition or not, as he's not doing it for the glory or the money hungry record companies. He's doing it for himself and the love of the music. Refreshing, isn't it.

Compilation Album: WE ARE THE LLAMA

Barbaraville Records is Martin Stephenson's new label and is also a wee village in the Highlands of Scotland between Invergordon and Tain. The label is a home for a collective of original artists that Stephenson has produced and believes in. The artists include singer/songwriter Scott Macdonald, German singer/songwriter / poet & artist Anita Camera, the indie / Folk inspired Love and Peace Band (featuring Laura Milne and Scott Peace), Edinburgh fire brand guitarist / musician Milton MacKenzie and Black Country based (The Peoples Republic of Tipton) GOJO' MUSIC.
All artists have recorded their works on the Zoom MRS1266 10 track digital machine in either Stephenson's tiny cottage in Barbaraville, or in GOJO' MUSIC’S case - songwriter Gary O'Dea's home in Tipton. The Barbaraville group of artists hope to float their works on Rob Ayling's Voice Print label.

Barbaraville-Artists:

Scott Macdonald
- is a Glasgow born singer songwriter with a tender heart and a razor sharp wit. His 3rd album will be released on the label very shortly and he will feature along with his label mates on the Barbaraville compilation CD to be released late summer entitled 'We Are The Llama.' Scott recently penned the brilliant song 'Stay' along with a whole bunch of other awesome material for his new album 'SOUL CITY' out soon...for further info visit http://www.myspace.com/scottmacdonaldmusic

Anita Camera - German born songwriter / poet /artist and photographer. Stephenson noticed how natural she was at writing songs and encouraged her to do her own solo album which is almost at completion. She has penned the all-time Barbaraville 20 years later - classic post-punk song 'TOXIC WASTE' which has inspired everyone who has heard it...for further info visit http://www.myspace.com/anitacam

Love & Peace - are indie folk-artists comprising of Scott Peace and his lovely partner Laura Milne. Brilliant, frail & beautiful songs, reminiscent of the Cowboy Junkies, L & P make beautiful music. Their debut album for Barbaraville is entitled 'RAINBOW TEETH' whose title track is very indie 70's disco crossed with PJ Harvey & Joe Tex. 'Tomorrow's Troubles' is a beautiful pastiche and an anthem for a sensitive unheard generation. For further info visit http://www.myspace.com/theloveandpeaceband

Milton Mackenzie - is Barbaraville's new signing. Ex Motorcycle boy from Edinburgh who moved to the Highlands 15 years ago to squat at Tarrel Farm with Sci-Fi author Michelle Faber. Milton was the lead guitarist with Highland band 'Feral' and also guitarist with 'The Dreadful Grate' for almost 8 years. He is an amazing 'out there' guitarist, a kind of 'dangerous Quo man on mescaline with a Beefheart sensibility.' Milton recently signed to Barbaraville on his way to Farmfoods last Thursday...he proclaimed "no big deal" as he kick-started his Bonneville! For further info visit http://www.myspace.com/barbaraville

Martin & Henry - are Martin Stephenson and Henry Fosbrooke who will be releasing a percussive/inventive style of music including ukuleles / 8ft Marimbas / Drums of all sizes / Marlow guitars & Didge. They record only at night in the Calrossie Woods when owls and hedgehogs are present beside a wood fire underneath the octagonal log cabin Henry has made. It is called the LOGTOGON. Their album 'RED KITE' will feature on the label's roster & the tune REDKITE will also feature on the Barbraville Compilation album. For further info please visit http://www.myspace.com/barbaraville

GOJO’ MUSIC - An acoustically driven 5 piece band (that can also scale down to an intimate acoustic duo) based around the songwriting of lead vocalist and rhythm guitar player Gary O'Dea and the virtuoso guitar playing of lead guitarist Garry 'Olly' Oliver. They are described as - 'blending together elements of classic chilled out grooves such as blues, funk n' soul with a contemporary twist - plus the passion and attitude of old school punk / rock n' roll to produce a rocking grooving organic mix of rhythms to soothe your soul in these troubled times.' Their acclaimed debut 4-track EP/CD 'Twenty Years Of Love & Pain...they hurt the same' was produced by Martin Stephenson in April 2006.
