Well - they don't come much better. Went to the FA Vase game with
Tipton Town
FC playing at Sutton in
Ashfield (
Notts) - many thanks to
Bonky and Bill for
accommodating me and Deb on the team coach. The plan was to go to the game - then on the return journey back down the A38, me and Deb were to get dropped off somewhere near
Belper in
Derbyshire - to go and see The Big North Light himself Martin Stephenson who was playing a gig in the town. He'd called me on the Saturday morning and asked me if I was definitely going to make the gig - and if I was would I play some harmonica for him on ...Crocodile
Cryer?!!!
I mean I'd crawl over broken bottles and barbed wire to bloody play on the song - it's a 'Stephenson classic' and I love the track.
Match was superb with The
Toon (
Tipton) hammering Sutton 6-1...get in there!
So we were well set up. After the game we got dropped off in Ripley (
Derbyshire) by the lads (the coach was rocking on the way home - Saturday Night Fever on the DVD and all the beer/ port/ lager etc, etc, that Bill and
Voicey could carry onto the coach from out of a local
Costcutter Store...the store owner thought it was bloody Christmas - ha ha ha).
We jumped on a bus to
Belper...the driver of which (you are not going to believe)...was originally from The Peoples Republic of
Tipton and now lives in
Derbyshire!!!! He heard my
dulcet tones and asked me where I was from...you couldn't make the rest up!!!
Get to
Belper - find the digs, drop the bag off get my harmonicas and off me and Deb go in a taxi to the gig. It was about 8:30pm that we got there and the gig was packed. Cracking little acoustic venue called The Top Bar at the Queens Head in
Belper.
Martin Stephenson was on excellent form and the crowd were
brilliant and as for Crocodile
Cryer...well see for yourself the footage is on
YouTubehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akQiPL0QeK0 and I'm walking round at peace with the world...and a warm glow about me!
You can also see it on the
GOJO' MUSIC
MySpace page
www.myspace.com/garygojomusic - there's a load of pics been added to the slide show on her as well so have a visit and a look around.
Thanks to everyone who took part in The Weekend That Was...to all at
Tipton Town
FC - the ex-
Tipton bus driver from Ripley to
Belper, The Amber Hills B & B, The Top Bar venue @The Queens Head,
Belper, the wonderful crowd (including Pete Shields and the beer) ...and last but not least to Martin Stephenson for being an absolute bloody gem of a songwriter, guitar player, performer...but most of all MY MATE XX.
Me and Deb had a great time - to quote another Martin Stephenson 'rocket' of a song Wholly Humble Heart to you all.
